Cliccer
Cliccer
Overview
Cliccer is a fun idea I had for an incremental clicker game. There is only one button and it changes based on what you do to it and the progression of the world. I think that it could be interesting to continue to play with this after the jam, but for now it's not bad.
Inspiration
Cliccer was heavily inspired by one of the optional themes from the jam, only one button. However I've been playing a lot of incremental games lately, such as The Gnorp Apalogue. I actually got the idea for two of the major mechanics, fire and ice, from The Gnorp Apalogue, as they function very similarly in my game. Cliccer was really just inspired by all of the incremental games I would play as a kid and even still play now.
Mechanics
In Cliccer there is only one button that you can click. This required me to get creative with how that button could be clicked. From becoming the shop, to clicking it with all three mouse buttons, I think it forced me to really look at how the interactions a simple button had could make for an interesting game.
Controls
In Cliccer, you can only click the button, so the controls are rather simple. Though you press enter to progress through things like the tutorial and to leave the shop when it appears. Other than that, in the shop you use Left click and right click to buy upgrades, and outside of the shop you unlock more ways to click the button as you progress.
In Shop
There is now a small delay in the shop so you don't accidentally buy something. Also upon a successful purchase, the shop disappears.
Left click buys an auto cliccer that upgrades your cliccs per second
Right click buys a clicc upgrade that upgrades your cliccs per click
In World
Left click just gives you cliccs based on your cliccs per click
Right click (if on red button or above) adds a fire effect that gives 20 cliccs per second on top of your base cliccs per second
Middle click (if on blue button) adds an ice effect that stores your cliccs gained while active and once ended it gives them all at once with a multiplier
Issues(?)
First, minimal testing has been done at this point, so let me know of any issues found.
Second, major "issues" that I have found mostly come from the limits of the game jam and my inability to think of good ways to overcome them. One that comes to mind is the lack of space leading to not as much info being passed through the text in the shop. This includes the price of the upgrade and not showing why one can't purchase an upgrade. There is also an annoyance where there is no buffer on the shop which means if you click too fast you can accidentally buy something. If anyone thinks of good ways around these, I would be happy to add them.
Submission to Jam
This is for the LOWREZJAM 2025. I modeled it to fit in the optional theme of only one button. I also only have until the eighth to submit it because I leave for vacation after that and will be gone through the end of the jam.
